To Study or... To Study?

With months of futile attempts at landing a job, the decision is now final. Yes, I will be going back to school. But the question is, am I studying for the right reasons and am I taking the correct steps to progress my career? Many individuals (I'm sure) end up in my situation where after a solid period of professional hiatus, one's skills and qualifications are pretty much obsolete in the current market. What with the 1000 new graduates each semester, the competition is just increasing. And it will continue to do so unless one takes that first step to becoming relevant again.

I will not regret this decision, surely. But, how do I know the next step will get me where I want to be? No, where I NEED to be. Instead of directly pursuing a Master's, as an HR professional, I require upping the ante to a point where I can at least end up at numerous interviewing tables. Choosing to complete a Certification program for HRM students should prove to employers that this candidate is serious, willing and ready to take on bigger challenges.

Time is of the essence and since I possess an abundance of this resource, I am ready to dive in to it completely. The dilemma will continue to confuse me, is this Certificate program better than pursuing a Master's? Many would agree not, but statistics have recently been showing that proving your worth (on paper, at least) via certifications and other professional licenses do add value.

Anyways, whatever the end result may be... For now, this program will suffice. Education is valuable in every form and I will see where this hopefully takes me next. And where need be, I'll continue to improve myself until I am successful, iA.
